Ancestors and Descendants of Delfina Falcon Parcell

Delfina Falcon was born on 20 April 1914 in Austin, Texas. She was the youngest of at least 12 known children born to Pedro G. Falcon and Helena T. Hessbrook. She married her first husband Isidro (sp?) G. Hernandez in Texas (possibly Taylor) at the young age of 15. From this marriage, she had 5 children, including one set of twins. She was married for approx. 11 years and then they were divorced.

At the age of 27, she married Torrivio A. Gallardo. They were married for eleven years, lived in San Antonio, Texas and did not have any children.

Her last marriage was to Calvin B. Parcell, whom she married in 1959. Together, they raised Calvin’s nephew Mark as their own son. They moved to California and lived on Juniper Street in Oxnard. She was 87 years old at her death on 11 Aug 2001. Her husband Calvin Parcell, her son Mike Hernandez and her grandson Mike Hernandez Jr. preceded her in death. She had 5 children, 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren still living as of her death.

Delfina had red hair and green eyes. Later her eyes turned blue after undergoing an operation to correct her vision in the 90’s. She was born to a midwife at home and so only has a baptismal certificate and not an actual Texas birth certificate. I currently do not have a copy of this certificate. She said she only remembers meeting Faustina out of her two sets of grandparents, but she remembers the stories told to her by her sisters about her other grandparents. She died of congestive heart failure, officially, and of a broken heart, unofficially.

Delfina’s sons and daughter live in California and her grandchildren live in California and Texas. She attended the Ochoa Family Reunion held in Oxnard, CA by my Uncle Vince Ochoa in June 2001. I was so honored that I got to see her one more time and that she got to meet my two girls before her death two weeks later. She was a great influence in my mother’s life. We all will miss her.

Delfina’s Husbands

Isidro Garcia Hernandez was born in Devine, Texas in May of 1908. He was the only son of Mercedes Hernandez and Petra Garcia. (Delfina told this information to me through my mother Delores.) He often went by the nickname of Roque, even going so far as to record it on the birth certificate for his twins Gloria and Gilbert. He was 21 when he married a then 15-year-old Delfina. He was Delfina’s first husband. They divorced and he remarried. His second marriage was to Margareta Cordonia This marriage also produced 5 children, including one set of twins. The only children’s names that I have from this marriage are Rebecca and Ruben. It is not known how long Roque stayed married to Maggie, as she was called, or if he even stayed married to her. Nothing much is known about this second family except that they had kept in touch with Edna, wife of Mike Hernandez, the first son of Roque and Delfina. At this point, he would be 93 years old *IF* he were still alive today (December 2001). He is not easy to find and so no one knows if he is actually alive or deceased. It is assumed that he is deceased. It is not known if Roque had any more wives or children. He was known to disappear for years at a time. His niece along with his sons has been looking for him for many years now. Roque’s niece Alma lives in Taylor, Texas, and she has her mother’s trunk, which contains her genealogy notes and her pictures, including pictures of Roque and their mother Petra. Alma described Roque as a prankster and a mean jokester. He liked to cause a lot of drama. She said that her own mother Amalia loved him and missed him and worried about him very much. Roque lived with his mother Petra and his sister Amalia during The Depression. In doing my own research on Roque, I have found one Isidro Hernandez who was born in May 1908 and died in El Paso, TX, in 1998 that turned out NOT to be him. There is another Roque Hernandez born in May 1908 who died in Chicago, IL in 1993 whose obituary I am currently trying to obtain. One last Isidro Hernandez that I am looking into was born in May 1908 and died in 1979 in Tom Green County, Texas. He is just very hard to find. For all I know he went to Mexico!

Torribio Acosta Gallardo was born (place unknown) on 22 March 1920 and he died on 16 Dec 1981 in Bexar County, Texas (assumed to be San Antonio, since that is where they lived together during their marriage.) Other than that, I know nothing more about him. He was Delfina’s second husband. They too were divorced.

Calvin Burchell Parcell was born on 17 January 1932 in Virginia. He was retired from the Air Force. He and Delfina met on New Year’s Eve in 1958. They married and together they lived in Oxnard, California, on Juniper Street and raised his nephew Mark Parcell as their son. He died of cancer on 3 September 1990 in Oxnard, California. I do not know his parents or siblings’ names.

Parents of Delfina F. Parcell:

Delfina’s parents are Pedro Gonzales Falcon and Helena Torres Hessbrook.

The date given to me by Grandma Delfina for the birth of Pedro G. Falcon was 25 Jun 1864 and that he was born somewhere in Texas. This has not been confirmed, yet. He is the only child, according to Delfina, of Juan Falcon and Faustina Gonzales. I did confirm that he died in Taylor, Texas on 30 March 1940. He may be buried there, too. I am still trying to get more information about his life.

The date given to me by Grandma Delfina for the birth of Helena T. Hessbrook was 20 May 1877. Also, this date has not been confirmed yet. She is supposed to have lived past 100 years of age, so this birth date does not coincide with her confirmed death date of 04 Oct 1952 in Bexar County, San Antonio, Texas. Delfina stated that Helena was born somewhere in the Hill Country of Texas and is buried in San Antonio. Helena had 4 siblings and was of German and Mexican descent. I only know of one of her brother’s names: Albert Hessbrook. (I have pictures on my computer of him and his wife, as well as most of his descendants’ names, too.) I have found Albert’s descendants living in different cities in Texas, Oklahoma, New York, Michigan and Australia. It is said that Albert came from Berlin, Germany. Her parents’ names, as was given to me by Delfina, were Daniel Hessbrook and Juanita Torres. Helena may have been one of the witnesses to her brother Albert’s marriage in New Braunfels, Texas.

Siblings of Delfina F. Parcell:

All of Delfina’s siblings were, according to her, born in the Hill Country of Texas. Now, since Delfina was born in Austin, I assume that one or more of her siblings were born there, too. There were at least twelve children born to Pedro and Helena Falcon, with Delfina being the youngest. Grandma Delfina told me their names in their order of birth and I have had to guess on the spelling. Some names have been verified through death records and where I have their information I give it. There were other children, but these were the ones that lived past infancy and, with the exception of Alcadia, into adulthood.

Antonia
Josefina
Salsatina - May have been Faustina, but she was called Tina.
Guillermo – Was called Willie.
Apolonia
Alcadia
Elena – May have been Helena.
Severiano – Was called Charlie by the family and Cheve by his niece Alma.
Santos
Alvina
Dorotea – Was called Dorothy.

There was a child named George Falcon who was also raised by Pedro and Helena, but it said that he was actually Severiano’s child. The story is that George’s mother died or was institutionalized and he came to live with his grandparents for a while. George currently lives in California.

Nothing is known about Antonia Falcon or Josefina Falcon. Tina and Apolonia married two brothers with the last name Arredondo (again, spelling is an assumption on my part). Willie was born on 20 May 1894 and died in San Antonio, Texas, on 11 Jun 1969. He had a son named Rudy that died in a car accident. Alcadia died when she was three – cause unknown. Elena married a Rodriguez. Charlie was born on 08 Nov 1905, married Audelia Garcia, and he died on 23 Jan 1987 in Taylor, Texas. Santos was born on 11 Sept 1907, married a Jaramillo and she died on 24 Feb 1978 in San Antonio, Texas. Dorotea was born on 11 Jul 1913, married a Rivas, and she died on 17 Jun 1986 in Texas.

Grandparents of Delfina F. Parcell:

JUAN FALCON is the father of Pedro Falcon, Delfina’s father.
Juan Falcon is rumored to have come from the country of France. This has not been verified. Supposedly, he was persecuted in his own country for an unknown reason and that he came to the US for a land grant. I do not know if he had any siblings, nor do I know his parents names at this time. He married Faustina Gonzales in either Mexico or Texas. I do not know where he died or where he is buried.

FAUSTINA GONZALES is the mother of Pedro Falcon, Delfina’s father.
Faustina Gonzales, as told to me by Delfina, was Spanish. I may have misspelled her name. This is the grandmother that Delfina remembered meeting. I do not know where she died or where she is buried.

DANIEL HESSBROOK is the father of Helena Hessbrook, Delfina’s mother.
Daniel Hessbrook was said to have spoke fluent German. He may have come to the US for land grants, also. He may have come from Berlin, Germany. I do not know where he died or where he is buried.
The Hessbrook name was changed to Hesbrook (one “s”) for one descendant of his son Albert in Texas by a judge who didn’t like the double “s”. Other Hessbrook lines still retain the double “s” spelling.

JUANITA TORRES is the mother of Helena Hessbrook, Delfina’s mother.
Juanita Torres was born in Las Cruces, Mexico. (Delfina was adamant on that point: OLD Mexico, not New Mexico. (I haven’t found a Las Cruces Mexico, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t there.) It is said that she was accidentally shot and killed by one of her sons who was very young at the time of the incident. She happened to be pregnant with her 6th child. I do not know where she died, but it may be in Austin. I do not know where she is buried. I only know of two of her children’s names: Albert Hessbrook and Helena Hessbrook.

Parents of Isidro Garcia Hernandez:

Roque’s parents were Mercedes Hernandez and Petra Garcia.

Mercedes Hernandez was born in Mexico. He died in his early thirties in the US. He may be buried in Devine, Texas. I know nothing about where he was born, who his parents are, and if he has any siblings. It seems that all the Mercedes died tragically in their 30s.I do not know why Mercedes died. Mike died in a jeep accident while in the Army. Mike Jr. died in a motorcycle accident. Mike and Mike Jr are both buried in San Antonio.

Petra Garcia was born in Mexico. She died on 29 April sometime in the 80s. After the death of Mercedes, she married a man with the last name of Vega and this marriage produced 3 more children: Ruben Hernandez, Amalia Hernandez, and another daughter whose name is unclear. (I have her name as being Adelice as told to me by Alma; Evita as told to me by Grandma Delfina; and Audelia from an obituary for the wife of Severiano Falcon, which is who I understand this last daughter to be.) Petra was called Panchita. Nothing more is known of her such as her parent’s names and if she had any siblings and exactly where she may have been born. She lived in Taylor, Texas and died there, and is buried in Devine, Texas, according to Alma.
