Ancestors and Descendants of Francisco Moroyoqui Ochoa

Francisco Moroyoqui Ochoa was born 27 Jun 1901 to Francisco and Dolores Moroyoqui Ochoa. He is said to have been of Yaqui and Mayo descent. He mined gypsum in Arizona, where his first two children were born, before becoming attracted to the citrus industry. He moved to California to pick citrus and other crops. Wherever he went, his wife and children went – picking crops wherever they were in season. He lived in the cities of Satiquoy, Oxnard, and Santa Paula, during the latter part of his life, when he lived in Ventura County, California. The last of his children were born in Riverside and Ventura counties, California. He died 05 June 1978 in Ventura, Ventura County, California.

Francisco’s Parents:

His father is Francisco Ochoa born in (presumed to be) Sonora, Mexico and he died sometime before 1955. Francisco is considered to be of Mayo Indian descent. This has not been confirmed. Not much is known about his life yet.

His mother is Dolores Moroyoqui was born in (presumed to be) Sonora, Mexico on 20 Sep 1858 and she died in Florence, Los Angeles County, California, on 11 Jun 1955. She was already a widow. She is considered to be of Yaqui Indian descent. This has not been confirmed. I have contacted the Pascua Yaqui tribe in Arizona to no avail. One has to be a member of the official government rolls, blah blah blah.. So, right now there is no official way of confirming whether she was of Yaqui descent or not. It has been said by family members that she grew up in an Indian community that lived near the Yaqui River in what we call a tent or a teepee. I do not know the origin of Moroyoqui, but am tracking it down. Her parents are Gabriel and Maria Moroyoqui. I know nothing of their lives at the moment. I do not know if she lived with family towards the end of her long life, or what.

Francisco’s Wife:

Francisco Moroyoqui Ochoa married Guadalupe Robles sometime before 1922 in either Arizona or Mexico. She was born 14 Dec 1901 in Mexico (presumably Sonora) and she died 23 July 1964 in Ventura, Ventura County, California. It is not known if he remarried after her death.

Her parents are Joaquin Robles (1875-1942) and Trinidad Feliz (1877-1946). Not much is known about them. As I received their birth/death dates from the now offline California Death Index @ Rootsweb.com, I am currently sending off for their death certificates from California.

Siblings of Francisco Moroyoqui Ochoa:

According to family, he was the only known child of Francisco Ochoa and Dolores Moroyoqui.

As of today, March 5, 2006, I am asking the family for more information on him and his life. I am especially trying to get the address of his only surviving daughter Guadalupe (known as Tia Lupe) so that I may correspond with her and get more information from her about her and her siblings and their life.
